How to Film a Conference Recap That Sells Next Year's Tickets

By Paul Dal ·

The Adored Wife conference on stage

A conference recap that sells next year's tickets shows two things: the scale of the room and why people came. For Adored Wife's four-day conference I delivered an 82-second recap film in horizontal and vertical, three reels for each day (hype, voices and cinematic) and edited speaker headshots.

Plan the deliverables before the first session

  • — One recap film, in horizontal for the website and vertical for social
  • — A hype reel per day: music, motion, the size of the room
  • — A voices reel per day: attendees and speakers in their own words
  • — A cinematic reel per day: slower, the details and the light
  • — Speaker headshots, edited

Twelve daily reels across four days meant the team had something new for every day of the conference.

Cover the room, then the people in it

Every session got a wide shot of the full ballroom and the stage, then faces at the tables. The moments that sell tickets are the laughing, the hugs and the room standing up, not the slides.

At one point the whole room stood together making hearts with their hands. One wide frame of that is worth more than any testimonial graphic.
